The new Conservative MP for Sherwood, Mark Spencer attended the first CPF (Conservative policy forum) debate held since the General Election on Thursday 24th June 2010 and gave a talk on his impression of the first few weeks in parliament for a new MP. He said that after six weeks he had been now allocated an office at Westminster and that it had also taken this time, within the new rules, to establish and equip an office in Hucknall.
Mark said ‘he had entered Westminster at a particularly challenging time, when the massif economic deficit bequeathed to the county by Labour and inherent structural problems of the economy must be radically adjusted. That the policies now being followed by the government were both necessary and difficult and would be painful for all but that in the long run we would in the future benefit’.
Trevor Peat, Chairman of the Cpf who lives in Hucknall, congratulated Mark on being elected to represent Sherwood and welcomed him to the meeting. Trevor said ‘it was a privilege to be able to discuss with Mark both the local and national issues that concerned us all, and he thanked Mark for finding time to attend this meeting and to be able to welcome two members who joined on the evening’.
The topics debated ranged from Foreign Affair's, the Prime Ministers relationship with President Obama and his handling of the B.P. incident, to local issues raised by County Councillor Mick Murphy who had secured funding for new pavements in the Westville area or Hucknall.
The informal well attended meeting was held at the home of Annie Wilkinson who provided food and refreshment and monies raised will go towards the funding of next years District Council Elections.
The Cpf meets every few months and then feeds comments and views back to Conservative Policy makers and Minsters. Future topics could include the proposed National Citizens Service, the establishing of school academy’s & free schools and new Olympic school sport's competitions.
