Chancellor George Osborne was in Sherwood on Friday talking to Mark Spencer and MP and the management at UK Coal about the Coal Allowance.
The Chancellor promised that the government would guarantee that 400 pit workers recently made redundant would get a free annual delivery of coal worth £1300 or £600 cash. A further 1000 retired workers will also get help under the concessionary fuel scheme. Mr Osborne said he was determined to help people with rising energy prices.
About 69000 former mine workers and their families receieve a fuel allowance from government each year with Friday's announcement bringing in a further 1500 who have lost jobs following the collapse of UK Coal.
