During June and July I am focussing my attentions on the growing number of independent local businesses that are popping up on High Streets across Sherwood. These businesses have had a tough time in recent years as the economic downturn has hit hard, and we hope that as the picture improves we can see them return and fill those empty shops. I want to highlight the many issues we still have in Sherwood and will press the local Council to make changes.
As our economy continues to improve we have seen a number of new shops and cafes opening up that are tempting shoppers back in to our town centres. It's vital that we recognise and support this to make sure it continues to grow and that more local entrepreneurs can feel confident enough to start businesses of their own.
Over the course of June you'll see a poster popping up across Sherwood in every independent shop or cafe that wants to support the growth of our high streets and promote new businesses. The poster asks you to vote for you favourite high street business, and on Independence Day (July 4th) I'll head out to sample the constituency's favourite independent High Street business and deliver the good news.
